Well, in movies it is just like that, but space is a vacuum as you might know and you also might know that sound needs a medium to travel. on earth, you can hear your dog barking because there is air all around you and air is a medium, so is water, but in an empty vacuum there is no medium and hence sound cannot travel.

therefore, we can conclude that-

sound cannot travel in space as space is a vacuum(and there is no medium) and sound needs a medium to travel.
